Abstract:
|
As academic advisors, we spend a great deal of time helping our students with transitions. However, despite all of the research on helping our students with transition, how we, as advisors, help ourselves and each other deserves its own conversation. In this presentation, participants will be engaged in discussion on how we guide ourselves and each other in role transition with emphasis on transitioning from working in traditional undergraduate settings to graduate and professional student advising. Utilizing personal experiences backed by NACADA's supported definitions and theories such as Schlossberg's Theory of Adult Transition, presenters will demonstrate what a professional needs to understand to best make a transition. Topics covered will include key similarities and differences between roles and populations, and the leveraging of transferable skills and personal branding. |
