Would you like to move past the basic (OARS) skills of Motivational Interviewing? Are you interested in developing other Motivational Interviewing skills that will help students make positive change? In this session we will discuss the 'why' or the 'spirit' of Motivational Interviewing. As an important review of AI 101 we will briefly explore the difference between simple and complex reflections and practice complex reflections using AI. We will then move on to MI 201 by learning to treat ambivalence using the tools represented by the acronyms DARN and CAT. Participants will also learn how to respond to sustain talk and discord. We will then discover the extremely important topic of evoking. Finally,we will end with the planning phase of Motivational Interviewing and talk about transitioning from Motivational Interviewing theory to practice.
