Abstract:
|
Many academically at risk students are not first year students but sophomores, juniors, seniors, returning, and re enrolled learners who face increasingly complex and unresolved barriers. This session presents a centralized Academic Recovery Advising model that reduces those barriers and provides continuity of care by aligning recovery protocols, coordinating with financial aid and policy partners, and preparing advisors to address the nuanced and often complicated needs of these students. Our model has contributed to higher persistence eligibility and meaningful reductions in suspensions. We will outline the process of centralizing this work, discuss implementation challenges, share key data outcomes, and highlight why focused, centralized support is essential for non-first year students whose obstacles often intensify as they progress. Participants will leave with a scalable framework for improving academic recovery outcomes across institutions. |
