Abstract:
|
Advising can be described as art and science. This workshop focuses on the science and art of leadership in advising by helping participants translate leadership research into daily practices that build strong teams and fosters continuous improvement.
A Leadership Framework will be utilized to connect 4 dimensions of effective leadership: theory, principles, competencies, and methods. Drawing from leadership theories articulated in 'Serve to Lead', 'The Five Dysfunctions of a Team', and 'Dare to Lead', this session demonstrates how ideas shape core beliefs, which develop observable skills and inform intentional actions. Participants will examine how principles such as service, trust, courage, collaboration, and accountability translate into competencies of effective communication, empowerment, sound decision-making, reflective practice, and developing others. Through case studies, self-assessment, and facilitated discussion, attendees will evaluate how current leadership practices align with institutional priorities. |
