Abstract:
|
Structured mentoring is a powerful strategy for advisor professional development. This session presents a structured, conversation-'centered mentoring model developed through four years as a mentor in the NACADA Region 7 mentoring program. The model supports Conceptual Competency #4 in discussing various advising approaches and strategies, Informational Competency #6 through shared professional resources and goal planning, and Relational Competency #1 through guided reflection on advising philosophy. Core elements include an intake and goal-'setting process, ongoing practice-'focused conversations, and progressive goal achievement. Outcomes include increased advisor confidence, competency development, and career readiness. Attendees will gain adaptable tools and strategies to strengthen mentoring practices and support continuous advisor growth. |
