Abstract:
|
Invisible Labor, Visible Results: Advancing Student Success at PWIs
African American men working in student success and student affairs roles at predominantly White institutions often engage in significant relational and often unseen responsibilities that support student persistence and belonging. While essential to advising effectiveness, this work can influence professional sustainability and development. This interactive session examines an affinity-based professional support model developed to strengthen advisor well-being, reflective practice, and student engagement. Facilitated by African American men working in student success roles, the session highlights how shared lived experiences inform relational advising approaches and professional growth. Participants will learn how the affinity group was intentionally formed and sustained and will engage in guided dialogue to explore strategies that enhance advisor sustainability, strengthen inclusive advising practices, and advance student success outcomes within their own institutional contexts. |
