Abstract:
|
Advisor professionalization is fostered through conceptual training that applies existing scholarship to daily practices. From educational psychology, the term research-based, developmentally informed (REDI) helps examine the discipline's impact on advising (Bierman et al., 2008). A presentation of developmental systems theory, constructivism, self-regulation, and attributions will follow (McDevitt & Ormrod, 2019). Participants will work individually and corporately to identify new advising understandings, pinpoint applications, reflect on practice, determine meaningful outcomes, and create next step inquiries to use in student appointments. REDI advising, then, is positioned as advising ready for students. While training in the NACADA conceptual competency is one goal, another is to enrich advising discourse by noting its strong connections to the human growth and development field. Participants will additionally benefit from analytical discussion aiming for increased confidence in one's work. |
