Abstract:
|
In a world filled with stereotypes, minoritized Americans find themselves wondering if they fit into specific spaces. This feeling may cause people of color to struggle with their identity (Sufficiently Black Podcast, 2021). Minoritized women face multiple layers of bias that prevent them from truly being themselves at the office, and Code-switching is a form of self-protection for minoritized Americans, who regularly face anti-minoritized bias on the job (Solano, 2021). This presentation will focus on the theory of Double Consciousness by W.E.B. Dubious and how it impacts how women of color navigate higher education institutions through code-switching. It aims to decode code-switching and identify ways to bring your authentic self to work. |
