Abstract:
|
What do Division I athletes and conservatory-level performers have in common? More than you think and far more than most advising models are designed to address. Artists & Athletes: Advising Anomalous Advisees will focus on the unique populations of student athletes and student artists. Join us as we compare and contrast the two student groups and discuss implications for the advising practice. The session will provide new ideas for making the advising environment and advising practices compatible for these students, how to create meaningful connections, and common advisor pitfalls. Attendees will leave with strategies to use with students, tools that are helpful to these student groups (ex. time management timetables, career resources, and scenario examples), and programs/campaigns that our institution has used to aid in student success and persistence through their programs. |
