Abstract:
|
Challenging employee conversations are unavoidable when supervising academic advisors, yet many leaders feel underprepared to navigate performance concerns, progressive discipline, and challenging conversations with confidence and care. This workshop provides practical tools framed by Bolman and Deal's Four-Frame Model 'Reframing Organizations' as they relate to NACADA's Core Competencies. Participants will work through advising-centered scenarios to practice coaching language, documentation strategies, and structured approaches to corrective action. Using the Structural, Human Resource, Political, and Symbolic frames, attendees will learn how to clarify expectations, manage emotional dynamics, address equity considerations, and conduct conversations professionally and respectfully. Emphasis is placed on early intervention, consistency, and protecting student service. Participants will leave with ready-to-use frameworks and language to approach difficult conversations as essential, ethical leadership practices within advising environments. |
