Abstract:
|
The objective is to present evidence-based success advising approaches for students in ABET-accredited safety sciences programs. Here we will discuss our success advising principle, SAFETY, which represents Student-centeredness, Accessibility, Facilitation, Empowerment, Trust, and ultimately Yield excellent results in student success, and show how the SAFETY principle is used to successfully advise students with a diverse range of backgrounds, including full-time, and part-time students juggling work and life through different modalities of in-person and online students. Some students have years of field experience with professional credentials, while others are just beginning their journey toward the field. To meet the needs of such a diverse student body and attain our program educational objectives and ABET-prescribed student learning outcomes, a blending of professional and faculty advising approaches has been applied to support our students' success. |
