Abstract:
|
This interactive session explores how Women of Color draw on lived experiences to shape their advising practice, relational strategies, and student nurturing in a Predominantly White Institution. Grounded in Critical Race Feminism (Delgado, 1995 & Pratt-Clarke, 2010) and Women's Ways of Knowing (Belenky, etc., 1986), we will discuss how race, gender, culture, and spirituality intersect to inform our professional identities and pedagogical approaches. Through storytelling and reflection on critical experiences, including invisible labor, tokenism, and imposter syndrome, we will illustrate how marginalized identities can foster the capacity of empathy, resilience, and rapport building with students. Participants will be invited to engage in guided reflection and dialogue to share their own experiences and examine their identities, positionality, and advising practice in a safe space created for community building, knowledge construction, and connected knowing. |
