Abstract:
|
Adult learners are an expanding and diverse group within higher education. They bring valuable life and professional experience, well-developed goals, and substantial external commitments that influence their advising needs. This session examines how academic advisors can purposefully integrate principles of andragogy with the NACADA Academic Advising Core Competencies to better support adult learners' engagement, persistence, and path to graduation.
Participants will identify the core characteristics of adult learners, discuss how Knowles' adult learning principles inform effective advising, and apply NACADA's Conceptual, Informational, and Relational competencies through an interactive case study. Attendees will gain practical, advisor-focused strategies ready for immediate implementation across a variety of institutional settings |
