Abstract:
|
HOT TOPIC: Technology is now central to how advising is delivered, scaled, and assessed -- yet expectations for advisor technology competency are often implicit, inconsistent, or undefined. NACADA identifies information technology as a core advising competency, but what this means in practice remains an open question. This Hot Topic session invites participants to explore what technology competency should look like for academic advisors, including baseline versus advanced skills, role-based expectations, training and onboarding practices, and equitable approaches to skill development. Through guided discussion, attendees will consider how competencies should adapt as tools evolve, how automation and AI fit into advising practice, and how institutions can move from informal expectations to shared, transparent standards. Participants will leave with concrete ideas for articulating, supporting, and assessing technology competency in advising. |
