Join us on a 6-step journey that blends advising and programming to create moments of significant learning and relationship building in effort to increase student retention and success.
Advising students can often feel like you are the main character in an adventure novel with an impossible mission to complete. Many students are underprepared when they enter college, which can cause frustration for advisors. This presentation will explain the 6 specific steps a community college took to address gaps and frustrations through simple programming that is based on advising principles and practices. Attendees will participate in hands-on activities and will leave the session equipped to implement their own programming tailored to their students' needs with consideration to available institutional resources. This session is suitable for both community colleges and 4-year universities.
