Abstract:

Attendees will learn a model for a successful and effective advisor onboarding and training program. 100% of advisors who completed this program were 'prepared' to independently advise students. Attendees will create action items to take back to their institution by finding areas of improvement in their current onboarding and training processes. After workshop activities, participants will take away onboarding templates, training agendas, shadowing evaluations, and training checklists. With our 'a la carte' approach, this specific model, stemming from a community college environment, can be applicable to all college and university advising and student success offices. Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to learn about a two-year institution's advising office onboarding and training program, reflect on their own institution's onboarding practices, and create action items to apply to their institution's onboarding and/or training program. Documents will include feedback surveys, observation forms, and shared data to showcase the success of this model. |
