Abstract:
|
Students who feel connected to their institution achieve better outcomes-but is it possible to create meaningful connections for learners studying at a distance? Advisors from the nation's top ranked online business degree program believe it is. This session explores how to create an engagement-oriented advising program model that includes intentional advising, learning modules, interaction through media, a student ambassador program, virtual and in person events, and even extracurricular opportunities. We'll explain how instructional design theory informs our practice, what's worked, what hasn't, and offer strategies that can bring more purpose, connection, and possibility to you and your students. Through small group conversations, we'll invite participants to share their own strategies for creating connections and community for the students they advise. |
