Abstract:
|
Black transfer student-athletes face unique academic and career challenges that may limit awareness of graduate education pathways and hinder preparation for graduate-level careers. Post-sport career opportunities exist, but the role of athletic and academic experiences in shaping access to these careers is often underexplored (Okahana et al., 2016; Singer, 2008). Transfer student-athletes also encounter structural barriers, including credit transfer complications, disrupted degree progress, extended time to graduation, and lower completion probabilities (NCAA, 2024). This presentation shares findings from a qualitative study examining how faculty, academic advising professionals, and athletic departments can collaborate to increase Black transfer student-athletes' awareness of graduate education pathways and admission expectations. |
