Abstract:
|
Academic advising assessment often evokes fear and overwhelm among advisors and administrators. This session examines a two-year effort to reframe assessment as a shared, developmental process grounded in NACADA Values, CAS Standards, and NACADA core competencies. Presenters representing advisor, advising administrator, and student success leader perspectives will describe how this work strengthened a coherent narrative about how advising impacts student learning, persistence, and success. Participants will learn how establishing a common advising syllabus, shared learning outcomes, and documentation standards created consistency within a decentralized structure while preserving advisor autonomy. This session will address challenges like advisor buy-in, onboarding amid turnover, scaling assessment, and mitigating burnout while attendees gain practical strategies for using assessment data to inform professional development, improve student experience, and advocate for institutional support that benefits both students and advisors. |
