Abstract:
|
What can academic advising leaders learn from Pawnee, Indiana? In this interactive and energizing session, participants will explore leadership through the lens of Parks and Recreation while grounding their practice in Bolman and Gallos' four-frame model from 'Reframing Academic Leadership' and the NACADA Core Competencies. By comparing leadership styles to Leslie Knope's visionary enthusiasm, Ron Swanson's structured autonomy, and Anne Perkins' relational empathy, attendees will analyze how Structural, Human Resource, Political, and Symbolic frames shape advising leadership. Through discussion, reflection, and practical application, participants will identify their dominant leadership frame and develop strategies to 'reframe' complex advising challenges. Blending humor with theory, this session offers a memorable, competency-aligned approach to strengthening leadership agility, supporting advising teams, and advancing student success-because even serious leadership work can be a little more Pawnee. |
