Abstract:
|
First-'generation students often enter college with limited exposure to professional pathways, making academic and career decision-'making especially challenging. This session offers practical, equity-'centered strategies advisors can use to help first-'gen students build career clarity and confidence. Participants will explore common barriers to career exploration, learn strengths-'based and identity-'affirming advising approaches, and practice using low-'lift tools that integrate career conversations into academic advising. The session also highlights scalable activities and cross-'campus partnerships that expand students' access to mentors, networks, and experiential learning. Attendees will leave with actionable techniques to support purposeful, informed academic and career planning. |
