Abstract:

Learning to Lead: Developing Effective Supervision Skills
Many professionals move into supervisory roles because they excelled as advisors, not because they were prepared to lead. Once there, many of us find a challenging lack of clear direction and available learning for advising leaders. This interactive lecture/discussion will equip advising administrators with practical supervision skills applicable across institutional settings. Topics include transitioning from peer to supervisor, getting to know your direct reports, conducting appointment observations and notes reviews, navigating difficult conversations, supporting high-performing staff, and adapting your approach across varied roles. Presenters bring years of advising administration experience and will share concrete strategies alongside opportunities for audience discussion. Participants will leave with tools they can immediately apply in their own supervision practice. |
