Abstract:
|
As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more prominent in higher education, it is often framed as technical or impersonal. Advising is still very much human work. Advisors today manage growing caseloads and complex student needs. So how could AI help? This session offers an accessible, advisor-friendly introduction to AI grounded in NACADA's Core Values. We will demonstrate practical ways AI can help with routine advising work, and therefore provide more time for advisors to focus on strengthening their more relational, student-centered practices. Some examples include proactive outreaches, efficient file documentation, communication templates, and much more. Throughout the session we will also examine important ethical issues including FERPA, transparency, bias, and fairness. Participants will be invited to think about how AI fits into their daily responsibilities, their comfort level, and their campus. |
