First Year Films: How to Make Videos that Answer Student Questions
Rolling out a video to answer first-year student questions in advance is a great way to assuage fears, reduce advisor workload, convey cultural values, and welcome students with a friendly face. Nobody is better equipped to answer student questions than the academic advisor, so they should make the video and share it with students before class registration. Doing so will enhance student understanding, boost confidence, and increase content retention.
In this presentation, an academic advisor (and amateur filmmaker) will share the elements of a welcoming 'first year film.' Divided into pre-production, production, and post-production, topics include: script-writing and teleprompting, essential equipment (free or cheap), storytelling & editing, the proof in Youtube Analytics, free giveaways, and a blooper. |
