Adult learners comprise a growing segment of the post-secondary population and bring distinct goals, experiences, and challenges to higher education. This session examines the adult learner journey through an academic advising-centered lens, emphasizing advising as the integrative function that connects learners to resources, clarifies pathways, and supports informed decision-making from entry through completion.
The presentation explores common barriers adult learners encounter, including fragmented services, unclear pathways, and limited recognition of prior learning. Participants will engage in discussion and practical examples highlighting advising-centered strategies and cross-functional collaboration that promote persistence, efficiency, and a more coherent adult learner experience. |
