Abstract:
|
Retention is an important, complex, and heavily researched issue in higher education. Academic institutions continue to explore ways to help students persist. Although the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center (2024) found that retention rates nationwide are at the highest level in a decade, the transition to college continues to create disruptions for students which may lead to attrition.
Combining professional experience and research on retention and persistence, this hot topic describes who are students in transition, explores the barriers that impact student persistence, the high impact and evidence-based strategies that may help retain students, and the personalized support advising can provide students at risk of attrition.
This session aims to be a discussion, and brain-storming space; attendees will actively engage in conversation throughout the session. |
