Abstract:

HOT TOPIC: Enhancing Retention for Students in Transition
Retention is an important, complex, and heavily researched issue in higher education. Academic institutions continue to explore ways to help students persist. Although the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center (2024) found that retention rates nationwide are at the highest level in a decade, the transition to college continues to create disruptions for students which may lead to attrition.
Combining personal experience and research on retention and persistence, this HOT TOPIC explores the barriers that impact student persistence, the strategies that may help retain students, and the support advising can provide students at risk of attrition.
This session aims to be a discussion, sharing, and brain-storming space. We encourage attendees who are interested in retention or supporting success for students in transition. |
