Abstract:
|
Pre-health sciences students pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant studies, and other health professions often follow overlapping - but not identical - prerequisite pathways. This session describes how one academic advisor partnered with the biology department to design a formal Pre-Health Sciences concentration within the biology major, providing a coherent, flexible academic pathway that serves students regardless of which health profession they ultimately choose. Attendees will leave with a practical framework for initiating and sustaining advisor-department curriculum conversations, concrete examples of how concentration requirements were shaped by pre-health advising resources and student need, and strategies for replicating this model at their own institutions. |
