Abstract:
|
This session outlines a multi-'year institutional effort to redesign a decentralized advising system into a cohesive, professional model. Guided by a university-'wide commitment to ensure all undergraduates have access to a professional advisor, leaders aligned grassroots advisor advocacy with a Provost-'driven restructuring initiative. Colleges established Advising Directors and professional advising teams, supported by Program Directors who provide coordination in areas such as technology, transfer and returning student processes, and professional development. Shared resources, tools, and cross-'college communication structures strengthened consistency, collaboration, and long-'term sustainability. The session highlights how leadership leveraged institutional priorities, fiscal planning, and cultural considerations to balance shared coordination with college-'level autonomy. Advising leaders will gain practical insights for advancing organizational change, improving advisor support, and creating advising systems that deliver student-'centered experiences. |
