Abstract:
|
Georgia Tech (GT), a large, public research university, is partnering with Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) to build the Atlanta Bridge Program, a cohort-based transfer pathway. Funding is provided by a Bloomberg Philanthropies grant through the American Talent Initiative, a national alliance of colleges and universities seeking to increase the number of students with Pell Grants who ultimately persist and receive degrees. Since Spring 2024, GT and AMSC panelists have navigated two institutional cultures, enrollment timelines, and structures to build student support systems across both institutions. Typically, transfer students have more academic and integration challenges than direct-admit students and lack access to support systems until after transferring, which can hinder their success. Panelists will discuss how they are building a scalable inter-institutional system to support students before and after transferring. |
