Abstract:
|
Advisors face mounting caseloads, complex systems, and increasing pressure to demonstrate outcomes, often leaving little space for relational work. Yet research consistently shows that meaningful relationships remain central to student persistence and sense of belonging. Drawing on NACADA Core Competencies and works that frame advising as a relational, developmental practice with calls to refocus advising conversations on student purpose and meaning, this session explores how intentional design of a 30-'minute advising appointment can produce lasting impact. Using advising theories and practical strategies, participants will examine how to shift time and attention away from transactional tasks and toward questions that surface student goals and values. Attendees will leave with concrete tools for increasing presence, intentionality, and relational depth in even the busiest advising contexts. |
