Abstract:
|
Academic advisors cultivate a supportive ecosystem for their colleagues and students. As strategic communicators, they manage their responsibilities, specifically emotional labor, with intentionality. Learn how experience advisors foster a culture of care while navigating challenging conversations. Reflecting on research, NACADA's core competencies, one's own professional practices and work ecosystem will allow participants to consider what's working, where they face challenges, who they can turn to, and how they can mobilize resources within their ecosystem. The session will include a presentation of focus group results followed by prompting questions and small group discussion. Advisors will explore their strengths, practices, challenges, and network of support. The peer discussion will also allow attendees to consider additional practices, resources, and opportunities needed to sustain and grow a fruitful career. |
