Abstract:
|
Today's students value transparency over tradition and authenticity over authority, redefining what it means to 'show up' in higher education. As frontline workers of their universities, advisors hear it all: candid and unfiltered reflections about professors and talk of policies that 'make no sense.' Through discussion and scenarios, advisors will practice meeting students' authenticity with our own, modeling honesty and professionalism while guiding them toward tact and agency. Attendees will learn how to develop programming that appeals to our current students and their values. The session is designed not to critique the behaviors of this generation but rather to understand and support students who are passionate and committed humans. This mindset is a strength that advisors can harness to build trust and help students navigate academic spaces effectively. |
