Abstract:
|
How do advisors get professional development on a campus that has limited resources in a national moment where advising is not always recognized as a profession? To answer this question, our grassroots all-campus advising association created a workshop series to lower barriers for advisors to share their knowledge with each other and prepare to present at a conference. The series culminated in an in-house advising conference that was a unique professional development experience that helped foster a stronger and more dynamic advising community across our decentralized advising structure. This presentation-style session will address how we developed this series on a limited budget and how other institutions could implement similar kinds of professional development opportunities. Finally, we will invite the audience to reflect with us on how they might strengthen the advising community on their campuses. |
