Abstract:
|
Queer Pedagogies in Academic Advising: Reimagining How We See Students invites advisors to rethink traditional advising frameworks through the lens of queer theory. This session challenges heteronormative assumptions that often shape advising conversations and explores how queering our practices can create more expansive, inclusive, and transformative relationships with students. Participants will examine how normative expectations around identity, success, and professionalism show up in advising, and learn strategies to disrupt these patterns through reflective questioning, relational approaches, and affirming practices. By applying queer pedagogies, advisors can better honor student complexity, foster belonging, and cultivate advising spaces where all students can imagine and pursue futures beyond prescribed norms. |
