Abstract:
|
Academic advising initiatives are often presented as new solutions to evolving student needs, yet many institutions unknowingly revisit ideas first proposed decades earlier. After rediscovering advising-related strategic documents developed more than 30 years ago, institutional leaders identified striking parallels between past recommendations and current efforts to strengthen advising and student success initiatives. This session explores how revisiting institutional history can inform present-day decision-making and promote more sustainable innovation in academic advising. Through a collaborative case study, presenters will examine recurring advising priorities, barriers to implementation, and lessons learned across time. Participants will engage in guided reflection and discussion to identify overlooked institutional knowledge within their own contexts and consider strategies for leveraging institutional memory to advance advising practice, strengthen collaboration, and connect past vision with future possibility. |
