**An Ethical Framework for Artificial Intelligence in Academic Advising**
Artificial intelligence is increasingly embedded in academic advising through predictive analytics, generative AI tools, automated communication systems, and algorithmic decision-support platforms. Yet institutional adoption has often outpaced the development of clear ethical guardrails. This session introduces a structured ethical framework designed specifically for advising contexts, centering human dignity, transparency, equity, accountability, and responsible augmentation. Participants will explore common ethical risks-including algorithmic bias, data opacity, privacy erosion, and relational displacement-and apply a practical evaluation matrix to assess AI tools before or during implementation. Through scenario-based discussion and guided reflection, attendees will identify institutional safeguards and governance strategies to ensure AI enhances rather than diminishes relational advising. Designed for advisors and advising leaders, this session equips participants with principled, actionable tools to govern AI integration responsibly within student-centered advising systems. |
