Title: Elevating Advising Experiences through Compassion and Care
Lead Presenter: Jordan Truex

Abstract: Compassion is the spark that leads to true human connection. As academic advisors in today's constantly changing and more polarized climate, we need to take the time to listen more, ask tough questions, and strive for strengthened relationships with our students to help them navigate their college experiences. It is imperative that we possess the qualities, skills, and approaches to meet this generation of students where they are. In this presentation, we will discuss the six qualities of compassion-trust, empathy, patience, inclusion, community, and authentic connection-and how as advisors we can bolster these skills to develop strong and meaningful moments of connection with our students, creating environments of safety and belonging.
