Abstract:
|
This presentation explores how personal identities, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community, impact academic advising. A panel of queer advisors with over 20 years of experience will discuss the challenges and opportunities that arise when advisors and students share identities. The session will address negotiating personal boundaries, handling conflicts between advisor and student beliefs, and supporting students who feel unsupported by their institutions. Through sharing personal experiences and guiding self-reflection, the panel will help attendees examine how their own identities influence their advising practices within institutional and professional boundaries. |
