Abstract:
|
Since emerging as a distinct profession, the academic advising community has ventured to create meaningful structures for our work, striving to provide a thoughtful, intentional experience for our students. We have a growing body of research, advising models, and best practices promoted by NACADA. One common practice used throughout the advising community, adapted from our colleagues in classrooms, is the advising syllabus. This presentation will explore how we can go even further when learning from our faculty peers and explore how we can approach advising as its own distinctly tailored curriculum. We will discuss the development and ongoing implementation of an advising curriculum by an advising staff. This process has helped define and advance the experience for students, better explain our work to faculty and other professionals, and provide guidance for advisor hiring and training. |
