Abstract:
|
Academic advising is increasingly recognized as a teaching practice that fosters student learning, reflection, and development (NACADA, 2017). This lightning talk highlights prompted journaling as a practical strategy advisors can use to guide reflection, goal-setting, and progress monitoring before and after advising interactions (Gruber & Moffitt, 2014). Prompted journaling helps students articulate their academic and career intentions while supporting metacognition and self-authorship. The session will showcase sample prompts and provide practical strategies for integrating journaling into advising contexts. Attendees will leave with concrete examples and adaptable strategies to strengthen advisor-student engagement, promote equitable advising practices, and enhance students' reflective thinking skills (Woodbridge & Rust O'Beirne, 2017). |
