Abstract:
|
When new advisor training follows a centralized format, consistent, high-quality training outcomes for all campus advisors become possible! This session shares how one institution, with a decentralized advising model, was able to design and launch a campus-wide onboarding course to standardize the training experience and outcomes for all new advising hires. Using the best of learning design theory, learning management system technology, and advisor feedback, this course was built to address NACADA Core Competencies, campus resource visits, and university systems training, while also incorporating shadowing and other modes of learning.
Attendees will be provided with an overview of the curriculum and learn how trainers create adaptive training schedules for each hire and incorporate frequent check-ins and assessments along the way. Discussion on course design, leadership buy-in, and other challenges will be encouraged. |
