TITLE: Finding The Way Together: Major Discovery through Institutional Connections
Why bother spending money on college if you haven't decided on a major? is a question many undeclared and undecided students are familiar with. This question invalidates the important decisions that they have already made: the decision to seek a college degree, and the decision to attend a particular institution. In the process of creating a new program for students deciding on a major, we have learned some helpful strategies for acknowledging the trust students place in their institution, fostering student major decision making, and continuing their connections to the campus community. This concurrent session will share lessons learned from the creation of this program and will use the theory of planned happenstance and Burnett and Evans' (2016) concept of wayfinding as a lens to brainstorm additional avenues for student connection scaled to your institution
