Abstract:
|
Utilizing Locke's Range of Affect Theory as the framework, a study was conducted on professional staff in higher education to understand factors of job satisfaction. Five factors were found to be of large value to staff in terms of their job satisfaction. Understanding the value advisors place on facets of work impacts their job satisfaction. When high importance is placed on a facet, it is possible to experience both extreme satisfaction and extreme dissatisfaction (McFarlin, Coster, Rice, & Cooper, 1995). This session will discuss the findings of the study and provide opportunities for academic advisors to reflect upon their job satisfaction. Through discussion and reflection, participants will begin to think about the factors that affect their job satisfaction and how to leverage this knowledge to impact their job satisfaction. |
