A Beautiful Day to Declare: Empowering Upper-Class Students to Determine their Pathway
How can a small advising office provide additional support to upper class students who are struggling to identify a major? What are the unique challenges that students beyond their 1st year are facing when it comes to major selection? How does developing a clear path forward support student persistence and retention? To support continuing students still exploring their options, or redeciding, advisors created a class to provide intentional, ongoing, and practical support. This presentation will cover the development, implementation, and evolution of the class, and the outcomes for the students. We'll also discuss the surprising ways the course evolved to include experiential learning opportunities. The presentation is appropriate for advisors and practitioners who support continuing students who are exploring or transitioning between majors. |
