Title: Advising and Connecting with Gen Z Students (and Colleagues)
Gen Z (born 1996-2012) is known for new ways of communicating and bringing old trends back (Y2K fashion, anyone?). Now in the thick of Gen Z students within higher ed, how have colleges and advising adapted to this generation of students? Not only are they our students, but the eldest members of Gen Z (one of whom is writing this proposal/presentation) are some of your advising colleagues and contributing members of NACADA, so it's important that we understand and adapt to their needs. This presentation includes: contextual information about Gen Z, both from research and from personal/professional experience. We will dispell myths about Gen Z and go over how COVID-19 affected Gen Z students. At the end, we will discuss best practices for working with Gen Z in an advising and collegial relationships. |
