Abstract: In the past year, generative artificial intelligence (AI) has made a crash landing into the landscape of higher education, offering unprecedented opportunities and challenges. For advisors, is this a game-changer or a potential headache? Join the NACADA STEM Advising Community for a chat that explores the potential uses of generative AI in advising, especially for advising STEM majors. This session will examine possible benefits, such as streamlining tasks to give advisors more time for relational advising, and potential challenges, especially with regards to equity, inclusion and bias issues. In this interactive discussion, participants will share ideas on how this technology is being used in advising, and discuss concerns and successes surrounding its use. No matter your background or comfort level regarding generative AI, come join the conversation!
