Abstract:
|
This session will provide an overview of the Inclusive Advising Initiative. The Initiative focuses on advancing culture change and improving the inclusive advising experiences for all students (initial focus on Black students) through the development and implementation of an evidence-based, advisor-facing educational framework. We will review the framework details and emphasize the processes and strategies that can be scaled and adapted to a variety of institutional settings. Specifically, we will walk attendees through the steps the Team used in conceptualizing, operationalizing, implementing, and assessing the project. The Team uses a mixed-methods approach to assess short-term, intermediate and long-term outcomes and findings indicate meaningful improvement in Black students self-reported experiences of inclusive advising. Black students with advisors who participated in the Initiative exhibited greater persistence than Black students with advisors who did not participate. |
