Abstract:

Advising Allies in Non-Advising Roles: Working Together to Engage Students Globally (and Beyond)
Some students gain a global perspective through studying abroad, but what are we doing for students who are unable to or choose not to study abroad? Through Astin's Student Involvement Theory and Museus's Cultural Engaging Campus Environments Model, we know that cross-cultural engagement and involvement outside of the classroom are critical for college student success, not just academically but in their lives as global citizens. In this presentation, academic and international advisors discuss the relationship between academic advising and global engagement in their institutional context, while providing space for participant discussion to adapt the model of collaborative advising to their own campuses. |
