Abstract:
|
One of the most forgotten groups in higher education is students who transfer into a large institution from a smaller campus or community college. Transfer students will experience not only academic adjustments but also have to navigate a whole new lifestyle in their altered surroundings. Supportive, knowledgeable advisers on both sides of the transfer bridge can help narrow the increasing gap toward the advertised, yet rarely attained 4-year graduation target. During this session, we will review the characteristics of these pivoting students, discuss ways to provide more academic, social and engagement support to aid in transfer/transitioning students' degree completion in a more intentional and altruistic manner. |
