Abstract: Advisor Training and Development; Creating a Robust and Efficient Onboarding for New Hires

This session is an opportunity to learn how to create a robust and efficient onboarding and training process for new advising hires, a process that includes several practices mentioned in the NACADA published "Comprehensive Advising Training and Development" (2022). Training and development for new hires is fundamental because they need to have the confidence and competence to do the work well before they can independently host advising appointments. This presentation reviews the timeline and steps toward advisor readiness in the onboarding process as new advisors join the team, study policies and procedures, observe departmental operations, and ultimately lead their advising sessions independently with confidence and efficiency.
